Many of the Trustees, staff, congregants and the Minister, not to mention the kids, enjoyed a Water Slide after the Water Services. Our Music Director, Dr. Sam Welsh, is pictured here. Our Merging of the Waters service takes place the Sunday after Labor Day. We also kick off double services and this year, we kicked off SpiritJam. I rented a 25' water slide with the permission and support of our minister, Rev. Lydia Ferrante-Roseberry. What better way to bring the families to the service? The children gathered for a CircleJam about water, and we read the book, "The Wonder Thing" by Libby Hathorn. Then we enjoyed kids-only time on the water slide. The sounds of the splashing and yelling filtered into the sanctuary, but Lydia incorporated it into the service. Folks mentioned that it was refreshing to hear the joy after contemplating the repercussions of the big flood 1 year ago. Then all ages were invited to slide! Lydia had announced that she would do it, and included the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to her fellow ministers in the Front Range of Colorado. The crowd started chanting, "Lydia, Lydia!" As promised, she appeared, having changed into her "Standing on the Side of Love" shirt, and charged into the slide. The kids dowsed her with water and everyone clapped and yelled. It was a great way to kick off the year. |
